THE police command in Abuja  on Tuesday arraigned a 20-year-old mechanic, Samuel Babala, before an Upper Area Court in Gwagwalada, Abuja, for allegedly stealing a Jinsheng motorcycle valued at N80,000.

The police charged Babala, who resides in Kashe Village, Gwagwalada, Abuja, with criminal trespass, house breaking and theft.

He, however, pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Mr Abdullahi Tanko, told the court that the complainant, Mr Sabastine Kwallat of Dobi, Gwagwalada, Abuja, reported the case at the Gwagwalada Police Station on Sept. 8.

Tanko said that on Aug. 19, while the complainant was sleeping with his family in his room, the defendant  broke into his apartment and stole the motorcycle.

He added that, during police investigation, the defendant confessed to the crimes.

Tanko said that the defendant sold the  motorcycle to one Bashir now at large.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the provision of Sections 342, 346 and 286 of the Penal Code.

The Judge, Mr Sani Umar, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety, who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

He said that the surety must provide valid means of identification, warning that  default would attract remand.

He adjourned the case until Nov. 2 for definite hearing. (NAN)
