2018 Enrolment campaign: Board solicits support from mass media

Alhaji Alhassan Niworu, Chairman of the Niger State Universal Basic Education Board, on Tuesday solicited the support of mass media and traditional rulers in mobilising parents to enroll their children in schools.

Niworu told newsmen in Minna at a round table discussion with journalists, traditional rulers and UNICEF officials, that the role of mass media in every aspect of human endeavor was very significant.

Represented by Idris Ketso, Director, Schools Services, he called on the media to come out with more educative programmes that would mobilise stakeholders in supporting basic education delivery in the state.

He explained that it was on record that 13.2 million children of primary school were out of school in 2013, out of which Niger had 513,680, representing 3.09 per cent.

Mr Rabiu Musa, an official of UNICEF, called on stakeholders, traditional and religious leaders to do more in mobilising parents to sent their children to acquire western education.

He said that educating the younger ones would ensure rapid socioeconomic development at the grassroots level.

He explained that the only legacy any responsible government would leave behind for future generation was qualitative education.

Alhaji Muazu Lanka, District Head of Bosso, reiterated the commitment of traditional institution in supporting basic education in the state.

He said that already, traditional and religious leaders had embarked on aggressive sensitisation on what the society intended to benefit in educating the children. (NAN)
