THE Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council, says it will strive to reposition the practice of journalism by ensuring that journalists carry out their duties along with professional ethics.
Mallam Umar Saidu, the new chairman of the council, made this pledge in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi on Monday.
He said his administration would ensure that all qualified working journalists were fully registered with the union, stressing that those who were not qualified in the process would be shown the way out.
The chairman promised to ensure equity, fairness and transparency in its day to day activities, ensure open door policy and welcome constructive criticisms.
He said the council would soon collaborate with the state Ministry of Information and the Local Government Service Commission to provide training for all Information Officers in ministries and parastatal agencies.
Saidu explained that the training would improve performance by enhancing their proficiency in the discharge of their duties.
According to him, there is the need to sanitize the pen profession, which his administration is committed to.
The state NUJ council had recently elected new members, who would run the affairs of the union for the next three years. (NAN)
