AN ECOWAS Network of Electoral Commissions (ECONEC) on Tuesday in Dakar met with officials of Senegal’s Independent Electoral Commission (CENA) ahead of the 2019 presidential elections in Senegal and Nigeria.

The delegation was led by ECONEC Governing Board president and the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.

According to a statement issued by ECONEC spokesman, Paul Ejime, the delegation was received by CEMA President Doudou Ndir.

It noted that both sides discussed the strengthening of and support for electoral management bodies in the region, upcoming elections including November legislative vote in Guinea Bissau and 2019 presidential elections in Senegal and Nigeria.

“Fresh from the observation of Sunday’s presidential poll in Mali, the Yakubu-led delegation, is en route to Guinea Bissau, on Needs Assessment visit to that country’s Electoral Commission and a solidarity visit to Togo’s Independent Electoral body before returning to Abuja.”(NAN)
