THE Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, Abuja, has invited Tobs Agbaegbu, publisher of Verbatim Magazine, an investigative medium, for questioning. The invitation which was sent to the magazine was dated October 29, and expected Agbaegbu to report to the head of Financial Investigation Unit of the ICPC on Thursday, November 1.

A press release issued by the management of the Verbatim magazine and signed by Austin Anene, general manager, Operations, said the media outfit received the invitation with a rude shock because the letter of invitation did not state any cogent reason why the publisher, who is not a public office holder, should appear before the ICPC.

Anene, however, disclosed that the ICPC invitation came two weeks after the magazine published a cover story about the billions of naira allegedly stolen by public office holders in Kogi State.

He also said that the publisher of Verbatim magazine was out of town when the invitation from ICPC came, adding that Agbaegbu will honour the invitation when he returns to duty next week.

According to Anene, the public statement is a clarion call on the media and the international community to remain alert as some security agencies in Nigeria have of recent exhibited all forms of lawlessness in dealing with the media.
