The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, has invited Tobs Agbaegbu, the publisher of Verbatim magazine, an Abuja-based investigative medium, to appear before the head of the Financial Investigation Unit of the commission in Abuja, on Thursday, November 1, 2018.

The management of Verbatim, in a press release signed by Austin Anene, general manager (Operations), said that the organisation received the invitation with a rude shock, as the letter dated October 29 and did not indicate any cogent reason why Agbaegbu, who is not a public office holder should appear before the ICPC.

Anene disclosed, however, that the ICPC invitation came two weeks after Verbatim Magazine did a cover story about billions of naira allegedly stolen by some public office holders in Kogi State.

The GM announced that the publisher of Verbatim magazine was out of town when the invitation from the ICPC came, adding that Agbaegbu, who has spent more than 25 years in journalism practice will surely honour the invitation when he returns to duty next week.

Anene said the public statement was a clarion call on the media and international community to remain alert, as some security agencies in Nigeria have in recent past exhibited various forms of lawlessness and unfriendliness to the Nigerian media.
