Lagos NUJ celebrates World Radio Day


THE Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Lagos State Council celebrates Radio Broadcast Journalists on the commemoration of the 2019 World Radio Day.

The 8th Edition of the World Radio Day is celebrated all over the world on February 13.

The day marks a time where people around the world celebrate radio and how it shapes our lives.

The Union in a statement issued and signed by Qasim Akinreti, chairman and  Alfred Odifa, secretary, described the effect of radio as informing, transforming and uniting people all over the world.

In line with the theme of this year which is ‘Dialogue, Tolerance and Peace’, the Union urged Radio broadcasters to ensure that they contribute towards a peaceful and credible election in Nigeria.

The statement stressed that Radio programming build tolerance and surpass the difference separating groups by uniting them under common goals.

Radio is the mass medium reaching the widest audience in the world. It is also a powerful communication tool that is suited to reach remote communities and vulnerable people.

The union noted that at the 2019 World Radio Day, we should recognise the power of radio to promote dialogue, tolerance and peace.

The union wishes all Journalists, especially the electronic media a happy celebration.
