National Theatre GM says news is power of any nation

The General Manager of the National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos State , Dr  Stella Oyedepo,  has advised the media to be cautious in their handling  news items because they are  the power of a nation.

Oyedepo said this during her visit to the Lagos office of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday.

She said that positive news items were capable of stabilising and promoting development in any country.

She was accompanied on the visit by the management of the National Theatre.

The team was received by the Head of Operations( HLO) in Lagos office and Managing Editor, Mr Ibrahim Mamanga.

Others were the acting head of editorial service and   Deputy Editor- in-Chief ,Mr Silas Nwoha, the Deputy  Editor-In- Chief in charge of Economic desk, Mr Tajudeen Atitebi and others.

Oyedepo said that NAN and the National Theatre would continue to  be partners in progress, as both organizations were  indispensable to each other.

“We have so much to benefit from NAN because we organize events, welcome entertainers and news men are always in places where things like these happen.

“We compliment each other in the scheme of events,” she said.

According to her, the proximity of the organizations to each other wiwl yield positive results as long as both parties stay in agreement.

Also, the Director of Event Management and Business Development, Mr Biodun Abe, said that the National Theatre should benefit from the services of NAN.

He added that the visit should serve as  a new dawn for both organisations .

He said that  most  of the facilities that were in bad condition previously at the National Theatrehave begun to functiin effectively.

So, the National Theatre was set  to give members of the public a satisfactory service with its facilities in place, he said.

“National Theatre is not what it used to be some years back.

“The edifice has been lifted and it is in a better situation now,” he said.

Abe, however, raised the  issues of negative reports from NAN and pleaded with the NAN management to always give the National Theatre a fair hearing for balanced reportage.

The head of Lagos operations (HLO) of NAN, Mr  Ibrahim Mamanga, informed  the team   tha NAN always did  everything possible to publish only factual reports.

“We have a chain  of editors and controllers that vet our stories before they are published.

“A chain of processes are followed to ensure that only balanced storiesar transmitted to our clients,”he said.

Mamanga advised the  media officials of  the National Theatre to always give  audience to reporters from NAN in order to have their facts published.

 

NAN reports that the management staff from the National Theatre  at the meeting are : Mrs S.O Oludiya, Mrs Doris Okafor, Mr Abiodun Femi Joel , Mr Ndubuisi  Nwogwu JR, Mr Taiwo Olugbodi, Mr Wale Ojekolo and Mr Segun Oyebola. (NAN)
