NAWOJ condemns kidnapping of 4 women in Nasarawa

The National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) in Nasarawa State has condemned the kidnapping of four women in the state by unknown gunmen.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Yahanasu Abubakar, wife of the Chairman, Correspondents’ Chapel Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the state and three other women were kidnapped on

Yahanasu and three other women were abducted after the gunmen shot at the vehicle conveying them from Keffi to Lafia at about 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

The incident happened along Gudi-Garaku road in Akwanga Local Government Area of the state.

Tina Cyril, Nasarawa State Chairperson of NAWOJ, said in an interview NAN on Thursday in Lafia, that the act was a heinous crime.

The NAWOJ chairperson urged security agencies in the state to speedily rescue the women and arrest the culprits.

Cyril said: “the rate of kidnapping and other forms of insecurity in the state is alarming hence the need for the security agencies to be proactive in protecting the citizens.

“President Muhammadu Buhari and the state government should address the increasing rate of insecurity in the state and the country in general.”

She also appealed to the kidnappers to release the victims unconditionally “because poor women without savings cannot afford the millions they are demanding.”

He said that the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N5million for the release of his wife.

Meanwhile, ASP Samaila Usman, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, said the command had mobilised officers to the area to search and rescue the abducted women. (NAN)
