The ceremony would be chaired by Senator Ibrahim Mantu, former deputy senate president. According to the release signed by Tobs Agbaegbu, editor-in-chief of the magazine, “Verbatim Person-of-the-Year is meant to select and honour men, women or institution(s) adjudged by Verbatim Editorial Board, with input from a cross section of Nigerians, to have most positively provided good governance, legislation, exemplary service (public and private) and philanthropy, in Nigeria, in a particular year. The project is meant to encourage citizens, (individual and corporate,) to give out their best, in service to their fatherland.” Agbaegbu said that the February 7, event would signal the kickoff of full activities of the media outfit in 2013, especially with its fortnightly publication, Verbatim magazine.
