Medical doctor in court for allegedly misappropriating N7.5m

A 35-year -old medical doctor,  Olowolaju Adetola on Wednesday appeared in an FCT High Court sitting in Nyanya for allegedly misappropriating N7. 5 million.
The police charged Adetola with three counts of Criminal breach of trust,  cheating and misappropriation.
The prosecution counsel,  John Ijagbemi, told the court that Adetola committed the offence on June 14,  2020 in Kubwa, Abuja.
He alleged that the defendant was entrusted with N7. 5 million by Olusegun Akinbamini for Forex Trade.
Ijagbemi alleged further that the defendant misappropriated the money.
He informed the court that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 312,  323 and 309 of the Penal Code.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the allegations against him.
His counsel,  Barth Akinwunmi,  SAN, applied for bail for his client.
The judge,  Justice Peter Kekemeke ruling in the bail application held that
section 162 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act,  2015 states that a defendant charged with an offence punishable with imprisonment for a term exceeding three years shall,  on application to the court,  be released on bail.
” As long as he will not evade trial,  comment any other offence,  attempt to conceal or destroy evidence or prejudice the proper investigation of the offence.
” The defendant is hereby granted bail in the sum of N10 million with two surties in like sum ” he held.
He added that one of the sureties must be a medical doctor with about ten years in practice.
Kekemeke the adjourned the matter until Dec. 15,  for hearing. (NAN )
