Jonah Jang, retired airforce officer, administrator and governor of Plateau State, 71, March 13. Born in Du near Jos, Plateau State, he was educated at Riyom Primary School, Du-Jos, 1953-1956; Riyom Senior School, 1957-1959; Plateau Provincial Secondary School, Kuru, 1960-1964; Air Force Supply Operations Course, USA, 1972; Junior Command and Staff School, 1975, and Command and Staff College, Jaji, 1978-1979. Jang was commissioned as regular combatant officer, 1969. He was appointed military governor of Benue State, 1985-1986; military governor of Gongola, now Adamawa State, 1986-1988, and director of logistics, Nigeria Air Force, NAF, headquarters, Lagos, 1988. He was elected governor of Plateau State in 2007 and re-elected for second term in 2011.

Ebongabasi Ekpe-Juda, managing director, Acts Resources Limited, Okota, Lagos, 58, March 16. Born in Nigeria, he attended Holy Family College, Oku- Abak, Abak, Akwa Ibom State, 1971-1976; University of Maiduguri, 1978-1982, and University of Ibandan, 1985-1986. Ekpe-Juda was employed as a management trainee, United Africa Company of Nigeria, UACN, PLC, 1984-1985; branch manager, UACN, 1987-1988; assistant director, Data Sciences Nigeria Limited, Ikeja, Lagos, 1992-1993. He is a member, Nigeria Institute of Management, NIM, and member, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR. Ekpe-Juda is also a member of Intercessors for Nigeria, Africa and beyond. His hobbies include football, volleyball, lawn and table tennis, squash and swimming. He is the author of the book: The Bewitched Church.

Osuagwu Ihechinyerem Kelechi, physician, consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist, chief medical director, Newlife Specialist Clinics and Maternity, 43, March 16. Born in Okpanku, Amumara, Ezihinitte, Mbaise local government area of Imo State, he was educated at Central School, Amumara, 1978-1983; Archdeacon Dennis Junior Seminary, Mbieri, Owerri, Imo State, 1984-1990, University of Ibadan, 1991-1998. He was medical officer, Kaltungo General Hospital, Gombe, 1999-2000; registrar, obstetrics and gynaecology, Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, 2001-2005; senior registrar, Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, 2005-2008; head of clinical services, Princess Medical Centre, Port Harcourt. He is a fellow, West African College of Surgeons, FWACS; member, International Aids Society, European Society of Gynaecological Oncologists, and zonal chairman/South-East regional coordinator, Nigerian Cancer Society. He is director Jasonik Global Services.

Emeka Etiaba, lawyer, philanthropist and politician, 50, March 16. Born in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, he was educated at Nike Grammar School, Enugu; Okongwu Grammar School, Nnewi, and University of Jos in 1988. He attended Nigerian Law School and was called to the Bar in 1989. He has been in private legal practice and his law firm has branches in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Nnewi. He is a member of the International Bar Association and Ikoyi Club. He was governorship aspirant under the People’s Progressive Alliance, PPA, in Anambra State in the 2010 governorship election, but lost in the party’s primaries.

Michael Subomi Balogun, lawyer, banker and administrator, 81, March 9. Born in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, he was educated at Igbobi College, Yaba, Lagos; Nigeria College of Arts, Science and Technology, Ibadan; London School of Economics, London University; Lincoln’s Inn, London, and became, Crown Counsel, Western Regional Ministry of Justice, 1961. He was principal counsel and secretary, Nigeria Industrial Development Bank;  former chairman and chief executive officer, First City Monument Bank, FCMB. He holds the traditional title of Otunba Tunwase of Ijebu-Ode.

Abubakar Gimba, economist, author and administrator, 63, March 10. Born in Niger State, he was educated at the Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, Zaria, and the University of Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. He was permanent secretary, Department of Planning and Budget, Office of the military governor, 1983-1984. He retired from the service of Niger State government in 1987, and was appointed executive director, management services, Union Bank of Nigeria, Limited, in 1988.
