Joshua Dariye, accountant, administrator and former governor of Plateau State, 58, July 27. Born in Horop, Bokkos local government area of Plateau State, he was educated at St Clements University, Australia. Dariye was appointed chief inspector, Internal Audit and Control Department, Lion Bank PLC, 1989; chief financial accountant, Benue Cement Company PLC, 1990; general manager, personnel and finance, Benue Cement Company PLC, and chief accountant, Plateau Publishing Company Limited, 1998. Dariye was elected governor of Plateau State between 1999 and 2007. He was a Senator in 2011 to represent Plateau Central on the platform of the Labour party, LP. But in 2015 he decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, where he was elected to represent his senatorial district.

Ogbeh

Audu Innocent Ogbeh, former national chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, 68, July 28. Born in Otukpo, Benue State, he was educated at Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, Zaria, and the University of Toulouse, France. He was deputy speaker, Benue State House of Assembly, 1979-1982; minister of communications, 1982; minister of power and steel, 1983.

Maxwell Chinaechetam Korie, clergy and bishop of Life Assembly, 54, July 26. Born in Olokoro, Umuahia, Abia State, he was educated at the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State and Cornerstone University, Jerusalem, where he had his Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and a doctorate. Korie is a popular radio preacher in Regeneration Hour Broadcast, at Imo Broadcasting Corporation and Akwa Ibom State Radio Station.

J. O. J. Nwachukwu Agbada, professor of English and dean, School of Post Graduate Studies, Abia State University, ABSU, Uturu, Abia State, 61, July 22. He was educated at the Universities of Jos and Ibadan, from where he earned two degrees. He taught at the Federal Advanced Teachers’ College, Abeokuta; Anambra College of Education, Awka, Anambra State, and Imo State University, Okigwe, now Abia State University, Uturu. He was a one-time member of the governing council of the university. He had, at various times, been the head of English department; co-ordinator, head of the School of Humanities and director of the division of general studies of ABSU.
