Austin Okocha, erstwhile international football player and former captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, 42, August 14. Born in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, he started his football career with Rangers International FC, Enugu, from where he joined Fenerbache FC of Turkey. In 1998, he joined Paris Saint Germaine, PSG, in Paris, France. Okocha also played for Bolton Wanderers FC, a premiership club side in England, which he joined in 2002. Okocha was also part of the Super Eagles squad that won the Africa Nations Cup in Tunisia in 1994 and was a recipient of a gold medal for soccer in 1996 Olympics; BBC best footballer of the year in 1998, and again in 2003. The former midfielder is also a silver medallist, in Nigeria/Ghana 2000 Nations Cup. He has featured in three World Cup competitions.

Adegboyega Babs Odunuga, former marketing manager of UAC, 65, August 10. Born in Lagos, he was educated at St. Anthony’s Grammar School, Esure, Ijebu-Imushin, Ogun State, 1965-1969, and St. Gregory’s College, Ikoyi, Lagos, 1970-1971. He also attended South-West London College, former Balham and Tooting College of Commerce, United Kingdom, 1973-1976, for his Higher National Diploma, HND, in Business Management Studies. In 1975, he earned a Diploma from the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK. He joined, GBO, a division of the UAC, in 1976, as a management trainee and later, became a management staff in 1979. He was also product group manager, Niger Motors/FMI, Apapa, Lagos; managing director/CEO Durode-Ola Parts Venture and is also a major distributor/dealer of automobile tyres. He is the Otunba of Imoru, Ijebu-Ode, and Otunba Robake of Ilodo, Ijebu-Imushin, Ogun State.

Jubril Martins-Kuye, politician, former minister of finance, 73, August 16. Born in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, he was educated at the University of Ibadan, 1965-1968, and Harvard University Graduate Business School, Harvard, USA, 1983. He was appointed product divisional manager, southern promotions, Lever Brothers, in 1974. He was chairman, S and K Asbestos Products Limited from 1980-1983. Martins-Kuye holds the Islamic title of Aare Musulumi of Ogun State.

Moses Atakpa, Kogi State head of service and former permanent secretary, Board of Internal Revenue, 55, August 14. Born in Okpotala, Omala local government area of Kogi State, he was educated at Qua Iboe Mission School, Okpotala, 1968-1974; Ochaja Secondary School, Ochaja, 1974-1979; Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, 1982-1985; University of Nigeria, Nsukka, 2001 and Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, where he obtained a PhD in 2009. Atakpa was appointed general manager, Kogi State Agricultural Land Development Board, Lokoja, 1993-2003; director, Admin and Finance, Board of Internal Revenue, Lokoja, 2003-2007.
