Gabriel Osu, Catholic priest, human rights activist and author, 63, September 5. Born in Lagos, he attended St. Thomas Acquinas Primary School, Surulere, Lagos; St. Theresa’s Minor Seminary, Ibadan and St. Peter and Paul Major Seminary, Ibadan. He was ordained a priest on December 5, 1981, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Ebute-Metta, Lagos, where he is at present, the parish priest. He holds a Master’s degree, STL-Licentiate, in Theology from the Alfonsiana University, Rome. Osu rose to the post of curate and administrator of the Holy Cross Cathedral, Lagos, where he served under Anthony Cardinal Okogie for several years. He was the director of social communication of the Lagos archdiocese for over two decades and the editor-in-chief of the Catholic Herald. He also directed the Catholic family radio. He is a member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists; Nigeria Institute of Catholic Media Practitioners and Nigerian Institute of International Affairs.
