Oladimeji Bankole, politician and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, 47, November 14. Born in Abeokuta, Ogun State, he studied at the Baptist Boys High School, Abeokuta, 1979; Albany College, London, England, 1985; University of Reading, Reading, England, 1989; University of Oxford’s Officer Training College, Oxford, England, 1991; and Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts, US, 2005. Bankole was the director of Freight Agencies Nigeria Limited, 1995-1998, executive director of Operations of West African Aluminium Products Limited, 1998-2004, and director of ASAP Limited, 2000-2003. He was elected to the House of Representatives on the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, representing Abeokuta South Federal Constituency of Ogun State. He was deputy chairman of the House Committee on Finance; and was also previously chairman of the House Committee on Land Transport. Bankole was re-elected in April 2007. He became the Speaker of the House in September 2007.
