THE Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office (NMCO) is partnering with the Department of State Service (DSS)to train members of its staff on cyber security.

Speaking at the one day training on Tuesday in Abuja, the Director General of NMCO, Mr Obadiah Nkom, said that the move was part of its commitment to serve its clients efficiently though its online platform.

Nkom said that the training was aimed at curbing crimes associated with the internet and protecting government documents.

He said that everyone was vulnerable to attack, and described the training as part of the NMCO’s strategy to reform its operations and enhance security awareness.

He charged the trainees to adhere to the guidelines and regulations of the DSS training, emphasising that cybersecurity is crucial for both personal and organisational protection.

He said that the NMCO’s system was migrated to a web-based platform after the inauguration of the electronic Mining Cadastre Plus (eMC+), making the training crucial to prevent cyber threats.

According to the NMCO boss, the migration is designed to enhance efficiency and transparency in processing mineral title applications, thereby attracting more investment to the mineral sector.

“I believe that you all know that our eMC+ has been online since it was launched in November 2022, and we have been receiving a lot of online applications.

“We need to be very careful and be able to identify certain tricks as we are being taught today.

“We must therefore be committed to ensuring zero tolerance on cybercrimes,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the training includes protection against threats such as malware, phishing, identity theft, and the importance of document security, among others.(NAN)
