Motor dealer, mechanic docked for allegedly threatening driver with grievous hurt

A car dealer, Salawudeen Rasheed and a mechanic, Rasak Olajide, were on Thursday brought before a Grade I Area Court, Kubwa, Abuja, charged with threatening a driver with grievous hurt for using a car park.

The police arraigned the defendants, both residents of Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) junction, Kubwa, Abuja, with criminal conspiracy, intimidation and giving false information.
The prosecution counsel, Babajide Olanipekun, told the court that the complainant, Zakari Danjuma of Al- Obama Investment Limited, Abuja reported the matter at the Area Commander’s office, Kubwa on Feb.11.
Olanipekun said while the complainant’s driver was at the car park of the said company, temporarily allocated by FCTA/ Development Control, the defendants and one Kehinde Abdul at large threatened him.
The prosecution counsel said the defendants threatened the driver with sticks and weapons and towed three of the company’s cars to an unknown destination.
He said during police investigations the defendants lied to the police that the said cars were stolen and kept by unknown persons.
The offence, Olanipekun said, contravened the provisions of sections 97, 264 and 140 of the Penal Code.
The defendants pleaded not guilty.
The defence counsel, Mr Taiye Okoya, urged the court to grant his clients bail, citing Section 36 (5) of the 1999 Constitution.
The judge, Mr Muhammad Adamu, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N500, 000 each with one surety in like sum.
Adamu also ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and produce means of identification.
He adjourned the case until April 19 for hearing. (NAN)
