THE Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Works has urged contractors handling roads construction and other projects in the state to ensure that quality jobs are delivered.
Mr Abdulaziz Danladi, the chairman of the committee, made the call when the committee began inspection of projects in Lafia, Doma and Awe local government areas on Thursday.
Danladi expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of work at the ongoing construction of 24km Idadu-Agashi road in Doma Local Government Area of the state in spite of the huge amount of money released to the contractor by the state government.
He urged the contractor handling the work to improve on the standard of work and speed up to justify the N1.2 billion released out of N2.7 billion contracts sum.
The house also called on the contractor handling the ongoing construction of N24.2 million Police Station at the 500 Housing Unit Doma Road, Lafia, to redouble efforts.
The house advised the state government, particularly Ministry of Works, to step up its monitoring team to ensure contractors meet up with contracts specifications.
“We are not happy with the quality of works done so far by the contractors handling construction of a Police Station at 500 Housing unit Doma Road Lafia, Idadu-Agbashi road and we advise them to improve on their works as we will not tolerate sub-standard work.
“We are out to see things for yourselves with the view of correcting any abnormality, if discovered.
“We are not here to witch-hunt anybody but to ensure that the right things are done to justify government huge investment in projects execution.
“These projects were awarded by the government to improve on the lives of our people and boost the socio economic activities of our people.
“We urge contractors to improve on the quality of works as what we want is quality and standard works for the project’s durability.
“This contractor handling Idadu-Agbashi road, we are meant to understand that government has released N1.2 billion but see where we are, the pace of the work so far has not justified that,” he said.
