THE Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has distributed medical oxygen cylinders to isolation centres in the FCT.

The Chief of Medical Services, NAF, Air Commodore Gideon Bako, while distributing the items to the beneficiaries at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Thursday in Abuja, said it was in continuation of national efforts to fight COVID-19.

He explained that NAF had been supplying medical oxygen to the beneficiaries in the FCT and even in other parts of the country.

“All the beneficiaries need do is to bring their empty cylinder to the airport for onward transportation to Yola, fill them, and bring the cylinders back to them.

“All these are at no cost to them, being one of the ways of giving back to the society, and in efforts to fight the scourge.

“We have over 156 cylinders that we took to Yola, filled, returned and distribute to the beneficiaries,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the beneficiaries include: DSS Medical Centre, CACOVID Isolation Centre, as well as the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH).

NAN also reports that UATH has 128 of the cylinders, while DSS has 16.

According to him, NAF has its own cylinders too, which it normally supplies to the beneficiary isolation centres.

“We also have facilities in Yola like the Federal Medical Centre and the state Specialist Hospital that the service has been supplying medical oxygen to,” he said.

Bako, however, said that all the efforts were geared toward letting Nigerians know that wherever they were, they were not forgotten.

“Just bring your empty cylinder to the airport. We will transport them to Yola, fill them and bring them back to you wherever you are free of charge.

“The only thing we do is that we monitor to ensure that the cylinders are taken to the right place and for the purpose, they are meant for,” Bako said.
