THE National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has solicited the support of Borno residents against the circulation of fake and substandard products.

NAFDAC’s Coordinator in Borno, Mr. Nasiru Mato, said this was to ensure the safety and health of the consumers, during a door-to-door sensitization campaign on Sunday in Maiduguri.

Mato said that the agency conducted the sensitation in collaboration with the Community Development Service at places of worship, community domains, markets and motor parks within the Maiduguri Metropolis.

He said that the exercise became necessary to prevent consumers from the consumption of unwholesome foods.

“This vigorous effort, aimed at educating and informing the unsuspecting consumers of unwholesome products, has continued to yield positive results geared toward safeguarding public health.

“We are highly excited by the inputs which NAFDAC continues to receive from the members of the public through robust synergy.

“We need the support of all well-meaning citizens to fight the circulation of fake, unwholesome and substandard products, to ensure the safety of the consumers.

“We warn all those engaged in the illegal manufacturing, sale and distribution of such fake products to desist from this unpatriotic act, or face serious sanctions as enshrined in the law,” he said.

Mato commended the efforts and continued support of the state government, leaders of traditional institutions, the media and the general public, for their confidence and trust in the agency’s activities in Borneo. (NAN)
