Mr Idonije Obakhedo, the Editor-In-Chief  (EIC), of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Friday urged the editorial staff members to uphold the standard of reporting that the agency was known for.

He said this at his first meeting with reporters, editors and other senior members of the department, in Abuja.

Obakhedo said that work in the agency should reflect the objectives of the present federal administration geared toward uplifting the standard of living of the citizens.

He asked the staff to be bold in the field, turn in exclusive reports and ensure that all news reports were objective, balanced and presented in accordance with the agency’s style.

“Every editorial staff member must uphold the editorial principles of the agency to ensure balanced reporting,’’ he said.

Obakhedo said that time had come for all hands to be on deck to ensure that the agency achieved its mandate.

According to him, every NAN report should focus on addressing the challenges of the state and citizens and at the same time satisfy the needs of its numerous clients.

The EIC also challenged the editorial staff members to be first as usual in breaking news and warned that late filing of reports would not be tolerated.

“We need to agree on deadlines. We need to talk more to ourselves and please let us work together,” he said.

According to the EIC, efforts will be made to provide staff members with the necessary tools to enable them to discharge their duties effectively.

He also pointed out that he would give priority to the welfare of editorial staff members within available resources in the agency.

The E-I-C pleaded with the workers to observe all the protocols of COVID-19 given by the federal government and its task force on the containment of the pandemic.

Obakhedo also held a separate meeting with Heads of Units and editorial management where he advised them to ensure strict supervision of their subordinates to motivate them and guarantee greater productivity.(NAN)
