Naval Officers’ Wives, Foundation kicks off basketball clinic for kids in Calabar

THE Naval Officers’ Wives Association (NOWA), in collaboration with Amenomo Foundation, has kicked off a basketball clinic for young boys and girls in Cross River.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the four-day event, which started on Friday, is being held at the basketball section of the U. J. Esuene sport stadium in Calabar.

Speaking, wife of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Hajia Nana Aisha-Gambo, said that the event was part of NOWA’s end of year activities.

Aisha-Gambo, represented at the occasion by the wife of the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command and Zonal Coordinator of NOWA, South-South, Mrs Habiba Dewu, said that the tournament is designed to give back to the society by developing young kids in sports.

According to her, the basketball ball clinic will also inspire the future generation towards becoming great leaders.

“The objective of this event is aimed at harnessing young talents and grooming them to become basketball stars as well as serve as an avenue for young lads to receive the basic requisite in sports.

“The clinic will also provide the unique opportunity for our kids to develop not only their physical but also mental capacity,” she said.

Also speaking, Mr Henry Umoru, Chief Executive Officer of Amenomo Foundation, said that the foundation is a charity organization that focuses on basketball and other social activities.

Umoro said that the aim of the clinic was to use basketball as a social and sporting activity to keep kids busy and instill discipline on them as they grow up.

One of the coaches, Mr Adeka Daudu, said they want to motivate the children to greatness using basketball.
