MAS’UD Adamu Kazaure, executive secretary of the National Board for Technical, NBTE, Kaduna, has expressed support to the management of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC,  towards its desire to accredit the FRSC Training School, Jos, for the award of Diploma certificates. The executive secretary gave the assurance during the familiarisation visit by Boboye Oyeyemi, corps marshal, to the management of the board at Kaduna.

According to a statement by Bisi Kazeem, head, Media Relations and Strategy, FRSC, Kazuare said the NBTE was established in 1977 to moderate the programmes for establishment of technical and vocational education. He noted that despite all efforts, Nigeria is still deficient in technical and vocational education as the available institutions across the country are inadequate to meet the needs of the country.

He commended the Corps Marshal for the visit, saying it would significantly reduce the existing gap in institutional communication in the commitment to efficiency and national development.  Kazaure further stressed that in the modern age of technology, it is imperative that personnel of regimental organisations like the FRSC should develop themselves intellectually apart from the regimental training they received while in service.

This, he said, would prepare them well for employment outside the organisation they served. He therefore, commended the Corps Marshal for his untiring commitment to issues of staff capacity development as evidenced by his determination to accredit the Corps’ training School .While recalling the conditions that an institution must meet before qualifying for accreditation, he  assured the Corps Marshal that as part of his commitment to supporting the Corps in its determination to get the accreditation, a fact finding team would be sent to the school to evaluate the current state of facilities and other requirements that could determine the approval .

He, however, stressed that with the Board’s commitment to issues of efficiency, efforts would be made to reduce bottlenecks that could delay the process.

Earlier, the Corps Marshal stated that he was at the NBTE as part of his commitment to securing accreditation to the FRSC training School at Jos, plateau state, which offers basic training to its low and middle cadre personnel. According to him, his management is determined to improve the capacity of the staff through improved access to education, noting that with such attainments, he was confident that the prospect of the staff after retirement would be higher.

Oyeyemi revealed that the process of affiliating the FRSC Academy, Udi, which gives basic training to officer cadets, to the Federal University of Technology Owerri for award of post graduate certificates in transport technology as required by the National Universities Commission, NUC, is already on. He added that his visit to the Board was to explore the possibility of the Corps’ training School which trains Road Marshals and Inspectorate cadre to get accreditation that would enable it to offer various courses in transport, road safety and logistics.

The Corps Marshal expressed optimism that with the available facilities currently at the institution and the determination of his management to meet the accreditation requirements through investments in improved facilities at the institution, the process of accreditation would be smooth. He thanked the Executive Secretary for the warm reception given to his entourage, which he said reflects the beginning of the cordial relationship between the two institutions for enhanced national development.
