THE National Directorate of Employment (NDE), has begun a one-month training of 50 youths on “Quick-Fix Demand Driven Skills sets’’ in Bayelsa.

According to NDE, the training is in line with its mandate of jobs creation and poverty reduction.

The Director-General of the directorate, Mr Nuhu Fikpo, said at the opening of the training on Tuesday in Yenagoa that the youths were drawn from the eight local government areas of the state.

Fikpo was represented by the Bayelsa Coordinator of NDE, Mr Aham Osuchukwu.

According to him, the skills-sets are labeled ‘quick fix,’ because they are skills that do not require much technicality, duration and much capital to set up.

“They are equally demand-driven skills. The duration of the training is one month.

“Some of the skills sets involved are confectioneries like peanut, doughnut, cakes, chin-chin, meat and fish pies.

“Others are vulcanising and cosmetology, liquid, bar, medicated and black soaps, perfumes, body creams, barbing and make-up among others,’’ he said.

Fikpo urged the beneficiaries to make effective use of the opportunity, urging them not to look down on the training.

“Count yourselves lucky to have been selected to undergo the life transforming skills acquisition training,’’ he said. (NAN)
