THE National Directorate for Employment (NDE) says it has begun training for collectors of scrap metals on business skills and recycling.

The four-day training was organised by its Small Scale Enterprises(SSE) Department for 30 participants , under its “Basic Business Training for Beneficiaries of Environpreneurship Development Scheme” in Plateau.

Speaking at the inauguration on Monday in Jos, the coordinator of NDE in Plateau, Malam Ibrahim Abdulazeez, said that the training was to empower them on being self-reliant and creating wealth.

He said that the training would help them in identifying and developing their strength in using waste products for wealth creation, and having the basic knowledge required for business management.

“This event is to train entrepreneurs to be hardworking and learn basic marketing skills such as book-keeping of business enterprises.

“This is in addition of the training we held recently for you on how to recycle waste,” he said.

He urged them to be committed to the training as many would not have such opportunity, adding that the skills learnt should be reflected in the operation of their business.

The state coordinator said that the business skills would increase their chances of expansion, saying serious-minded people would require the presentation of their business plans and records before assisting them.

“This training will build your confidence in approaching anybody you think can help you with your business.

“Also showcase your products to the agency to increase your chances of accessing grants when such opportunity arises,” he said.

Speaking at the event , the Director-General of NDE, Malam Nuhu Fikpo, said that the training was to empower beneficiaries.

Represented by a staff of the directorate, Mrs Cynthia Christopher, he said that the training was to build their capacity to meet the market trends of their business.

“We want you as entrepreneurs to know what is expected of you in the market and want you to ask questions during this session so that you make profit with what you have learnt,” he said.

He said that there was no plan yet for financial empowerment for the participants, but a needs assessment would be conducted at end of the training in preparation of such opportunities.

Representative of the beneficiaries, Yusuf Iliyas, thanked NDE for the training and assured them of adopting it to expand their business.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the participants, on their first day, were trained on record keeping, forms of business and raising capital.(NAN)
