THE North East Development Commission (NEDC) in collaboration with Blue Scape Consulting Limited has flagged off the training of 150 youths in efficient waste management and recycling.

Flagging off the training yesterday in Damaturu, the managing director of the commission, Mohammed Alkali, said it was meant to inculcate the modern recycling method to enable them to get a means of livelihood.

Alkali, represented by the state NEDC focal person, Dr Ali Ibrahim Abbas, said the training was to train the youths and link them up with the market directly instead of having third parties in terms of transactions and value chain processes.

“So what we are trying to do at the end of this programme is that we want these participants to be better informed of the best practices of the business. That is; how to do it in a more hygienic and conducive manner.

“At the end of the day, we want the value chain processes and their health conditions to improve and their sources of income also to increase invariably,” he added.

He said the participants were selected based on merit across all the 17 local government areas of the state in collaboration with the state Ministry of Environment.
