Coronavirus Pandemic
THE National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, in conjunction with the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, have carried out an oversight assessment tour to COVID-19 Protective Care Centres in Anambra State.
The assessment, which was carried out at Umueri General Hospital, Aguleri Surge Centre, Onitsha General Hospital, Ekwulobia General Hospital and Umuawulu Isolation Centre, were to inspect and ascertain level of readiness the state to fight against Coronavirus.
NEMA Southeast Zonal Coordinator, Fred Anusim, represented by the Assistant Coordinator, Eyiuche Aniagor, noted that in addition to ascertaining Anambra’s readiness in the isolation centres, they wanted to have in their records, the capacity of the isolation centres and actual number of persons it could accommodate.
“Secondly, we also want to know plans of SEMA, in terms of security logistics and Mass-care on this COVID-19 pandemic as it relates to restricted movement in the state.
“The two agencies had brainstormed on easy ways of identification, enumeration and collation of data of the most vulnerable in all the communities in the state, for possible food, water and any other interventions by Federal Government.
“NEMA has plans to support the state in terms of palliatives and this assessment report will help to achieve this,’’ he said.
Mr Anusim noted that the isolation centres in Anambra were among the best in the country and commended the state government for creating such facilities to contain the pandemic in the state.
SEMA Executive Secretary (ES), Chief Paul Odenigbo, who expressed satisfaction at the timely visit of NEMA team, pledged that all hands would be on deck to help to contain spread of the deadly virus in the state.
The executive director, SEMA, C. Y. Agupugo, said that Gov. Willie Obiano, maintained a high level of commitment and dedication in fighting the pandemic.
Agupugo said that the governor had also initiated various stimulus packages for the people of the state, aimed at cushioning the effects of the pandemic and the stay at home directive.
“It is due to the governor’s proactive measures that led to zero coronavirus in the state so far; we pray it remains that way until this pandemic is over,’’ he said.
Agupugo also extolled the state Commissioner for Health, Vincent Okpala, and COVID-19 Management Committee for their commitment and preparedness in the fight against the pandemic.
