Osagie Okunbor is to assume office as the new managing of the Shell Petroleum Development Company Limited, SPDC, and country chair of Shell Companies in Nigeria on March 1

OSAGIE Okunbor is to replace Mutiu Sunmonu as the new managing director of the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd, SPDC, starting from March 1. Okunbor, is currently the senior advisor in Shell’s Upstream International Operated business, in The Hague, The Netherlands, from where he returns to Port Harcourt to take over from Sunmonu, who is retiring from Shell after 36 years of service.

Okunbor has also been named the country chair of Shell Companies in Nigeria, combining the two positions as his predecessor did. Okunbor is the third Nigerian to hold both posts. Basil Omiyi was the first Nigerian to hold the two posts in Shell.

A graduate of Business Administration from the University of Benin, Okunbor is an accomplished professional, who brings over 28 years of industry experience and expertise to the role. He has also worked in Nigeria, the UK, and Brunei. He was the vice president, Human Resources for Shell’s Upstream Business in Sub-Saharan Africa and vice president, Infrastructure and Logistics Shell Nigeria.

Commenting on the appointment, Markus Droll, vice president Nigeria and Gabon, Shell Upstream, said: “We are delighted to see another Nigerian at the helm of affairs in Shell Nigeria. Mutiu has worked very hard over these years – managing production and setting a new agenda in dealing with communities, government and other key stakeholders. We’re confident that Osagie will consolidate and build on the progress we have made in the past years.”

A statement signed by Precious Okolobo, corporate media relations manager, Shell states that Okunbor is married to Soala and they are blessed with children. He enjoys music and football in his spare time.
