Ile-Ife, cradle of Yoruba nation, has a new Ooni, traditional ruler. He is Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, a prince, from the Giesi ruling house. Ogunwusi’s appointment as the new Ooni was announced on Monday, October 26, by Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State.
The emergence of the 51st Ooni is coming three months after the passing away of Oba Okunade Sijuwade, former occupant, who died in London on July 28.
According to a press statement signed by Moshood Adeoti, secretary to the state government, the kingmakers of Ife had done all the necessary pre-requisites and communicated the choice of Ogunwusi to his office for approval. The new Ooni of Ife is a 40-year old real estate entrepreneur. He attended The Polytechnic, Ibadan, where he obtained a Higher National Diploma, HND, in accountancy. He is currently the managing director of Howard Roark Gardens Limited, which is undertaking multi-million naira Jacob Mews Estate project in Yaba and the Lakeview real estate development in Lekki, all in Lagos.
Ogunwusi is on the board of Imperial Homes Mortgage Bank Limited, (formerly GTHomes); GTBank Plc and FinaTrust Microfinance Bank Limited.
He is a member of several professional bodies including, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN; the Institute of Directors, IoD, Nigeria and Global Real Estate Institute, GRI.
