THE Chairman, Plateau Youth Council (PYC), Mr Lot Adas, has called on youths in the state to unite across ethnic and religious lines for the growth, development and progress of the state.

Adas made the call shortly after the immediate past chair of the council, Dr Fabong Jemchang, handed the mantle of leadership to the new executive on Monday in Jos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the new executives of the council were formally inaugurated on Sept. 9.

Adas, who insisted that disunity among young people has been a major challenge facing the state, promised to make unity the major focus of his administration.

“Even if I will not achieve any other thing as PYC chairman, I want to see Plateau youths that are united.

“You will agree with me Plateau is diverse; we have  over 50 ethnic groups in the state and it is only when we unite that we can move forward.

“Under my leadership, I intend to ensure that Plateau youths speak the language of unity, love and togetherness,” he said.

Adas thanked the youths for the confidence reposed on him and promised not to fail.

He, however, called on them cooperate and support his administration in other for it to succeed.

On his part, the former Chairman, Jemchang, who is also the Director-General, Plateau Contributory Healthcare Management Agency, said that 12,000 youths were empowered during his tenure.

“We have trained over 12,000 youths in various skill acquisition programmes, ranging from tailoring, cosmetology, poultry, welding, metal fabrication, among others.

“We have also radicalised a lot of our youths using the United Nations funded programmes.

“We have also created an avenue where young people can learn leadership qualities toward a better Plateau,” he said

Jemchang promised to support the new executives to succeed.
