Hero Lager to promote Igbo apprenticeship system with N50m grant, training, mentorship

INTAFACT Breweries Plc., makers of premium Lager Hero beer, has announced plans to support the apprentice campaign scheme, Igba Boi campaign, with a N50 million grant.

This is being targeted at Igbo apprentices, who are in their last year of graduation with the grant to cover training and mentorship.

The grant would see Hero lager extending a hand of support to Igbo apprentices, who are on the verge of attaining independence through mentorship, seed capital grant and business advisory.

In a speech at the event at Intafact Breweries Company at Iyiowa, Odekpe to launch the campaign, the Marketing Director, International Breweries Plc, Tolutope Adedeji, explained that the Igba Boi Campaign Tour was a follow up to the ``Aha Gi Efula and Hero's Walk documentary’’.

The documentary, which tells the story of the Igbo apprenticeship system and has been viewed over a million times on YouTube.

``Through Aha Gi Efula (May Your Name Never Be Lost) campaign, we inspired consumers of Hero to aspire for success and encourage them to strive to leave lasting legacies.

``The campaign also serves as a reminder and boost to the courage, resilience and hard work and persistence of Nigeria's young men and women.

``With Igba boi campaigns, we are going a step further to entrench the Igbo apprenticeship culture by beaming the spotlight on the Igba bois without which the culture will cease to exist by catalysing their journey to independence and entrepreneurship success through mentorship, the award of grants and business advisory,’’ she said.

``We are funding the programme for the South East to have more millionaires and billionaires because they are more consumers of our product; most of our production happens here in the East, indeed Onitsha here; we stay where our customers are,’’  Adedeji added.

The Marketing Manager, Margaret Igabali, noted that the brand would embark on a tour to Ogbaru, Onitsha, Nnewi, Awka, Enugu, Alaba International, Lagos, Owerri, Ariaria Market, Aba and Ladipo Main Markets to invite `Ndi bois’ to submit their entries for consideration in conjunction with their masters.

``A rigorous selection process will follow the collection of entries to ensure that only those, who have a maximum of six months left to serve as worthy trainees over the years are selected.

``A 100 boi will be selected across the six markets, these trainees will be taken through a 2-day training and mentorship programme where they will learn the rudiments of business and receive a grant of N500,000 each to kick start their entrepreneurship journeys,’’ she said.

The campaign will run from September to December.2021 and is only open to individuals, who are 18 years and over.

The Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe as Royal father, was represented by Sam Chukwudelu, who prayed to God to bless the company and its management.
