The Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Mr Wasiu Adesina, on Tuesday, reiterated his administration’s commitment to improve workers’ welfare package for increased productivity.

Adesina made the pledge during the distribution of office furniture to mark his 100 days in office at the council Secretariat in Ikorodu Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the chairman was elected and sworn in on July 26, alongside 56 other local government chairmen in Lagos State.

“The local government, in a bid to improve the lives of staff, released the sum of N300,000 every month for staff welfare. We also renovated the secretariat.

“Today, we are happy to inform you that the local government has purchased and will distribute 100 office tables and chairs to all departments.

“Civil servants are the bedrock of any organisation and as such needed to be catered for.

“For the 100 days in office, our administration chose to focus on soft projects like empowerment, job creation, sports development and structural review of local government activities.

“We will also embark on sizeable number of roads and school rehabilitation with preliminary fixing of our health service basic needs,” Adesina said.

Mr Abiodun Orekoya, Commissioner 1, Lagos State Civil Service Commission, commended the chairman for improving the welfare of the workers despite the paucity of funds.

He said that most Lagos councils are viable as such should improve on their internally generated revenues with the untapped resources around them.

“The chairman has done well, taking into cognisance that Ikorodu is not one of the rich local governments.

“He has started with workers welfare so that they can work diligently for better results,” he said. ((NAN)
