Anambra 2021: Soludo, Ibezim receive certificates of return

THE Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has issued certificates of return to governor-elect, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo and his deputy, Onyekachukwu Ibezim for emerging winners of the Nov. 6, Anambra State governorship election.

The Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, made the presentation at the INEC office in Awka, the Anambra State capital on Nov. 12.

He commended the stakeholders, particularly the security agencies for their role in the smooth conduct of the governorship election.

Yakubu, who was represented by the INEC National Commissioner, In- Charge of Voter Education and Enlightenment, Festus Okoye, certified that Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of APGA has been elected to the office of governor of Anambra State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria at the polls held on Nov. 6.

Soludo was elected after polling the highest number of votes in the keenly-contested elections.

INEC Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Florence Obi, the Vice- Chancellor, University of Calabar, announced that the governor-elect met all the requirements to be returned.

Responding after he received his certificate of return, Soludo noted that with the level of transparency that INEC displayed during the election, showed that democracy has come to stay in Nigeria.

He thanked Gov. Willie Obiano for his support, the security agencies, especially the police for protecting Ndi Anambra before, during and after the election.

``I thank Ndi Anambra for believing in me and my electoral promises,’’ he said.
