THE Chairman, Lagos State Para-Athletics Association, Rafiu Olawale-Etti, has promised that the leadership of the association would not relent on its oars in creating an enabling environment for the para-athletes to unleash their potential.

Olawale-Etti’s  spoke while receiving the athletes at the Mainbowl of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Para athletes championships is ongoing at the main bowl of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere. The championships which commenced on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021 will end on Nov. 20, 2021.

Olawale-Etti , in a statement on Saturday, noted that the Para championship was conceived to create enabling platform for the people living with disabilities.

“We want them to come together and make themselves happy, feel among and to show that they are also important in the society.

“People living with disabilities  are also talented; coming up with this kind of initiative would go a long way in bringing out the best in them,” he said.

Olawale-Etti further disclosed that the Sports Para-Athletes had in the past  made the nation proud in all of the competitions they had attended.

“The para athletes do make the country proud by bringing laurels from  international competitions; so, giving them the platform to rise to stardom is the priority of Lagos State.

“Winners of these championships will go home with fabulous prizes and other attractive incentives.

“I thank the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for investing in sports and sporting development,” he said.

A Lagos State para-athlete, Adedeji Saheed,  said it is another opportunity for him to do what he knows how to do best.

“We have been waiting for this kind of event to happen and this is the time for us to demonstrate what we have been putting into practice for long,” he said. (NAN)
