THE Women Farmers Advancement Network (WOFAN), an NGO, has called on women to venture into agriculture and acquire other vocational skills.

Mr Solomon Tatari, the FCT Coordinator of the NGO, made the call in Abuja on Friday during a workshop for women on crop production in Kuje Area Council.

Tatari said by embracing skills acquisition and agriculture, women would contribute more to food production and also become self-reliant.

According to him, limited access to credit, health care and education are the challenges women face, adding that they negatively affected the economic development of the country.

“Empowering them is essential, not only for the well-being of individuals, families and rural communities but also for overall economic productivity.

“Adequate training and skill acquisition will equip them with talents to pursue new livelihoods and adapt technology to their needs.

“Women play a key role in food production and form a large proportion of the agricultural work force globally,” he said.

Mrs Zainab Dogara, who spoke on behalf of other participants, thanked the organisation for the sensitisation and called on government and other relevant bodies to assist women with soft loans for agriculture-related businesses. (NAN)
