Oba youths force peddlers, robbers to leave town, leaders get full tenure

THE Leadership of Oba Patriotic Union (OPU) Youth Wing led by Victor Tochukwu Uzochukwu has been accorded full tenure in recognition for handling many security challenges in Oba and conducting themselves properly toward Community development.

The Oba youths raided and destroyed illicit drugs hideouts, quelled activities of armed robbers operating within Oba axis on the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway, reduced activities of land grabbers in Oba Community, Idemili South LGA of Anambra State.

According to the President-General OPU, Rev Chris Emelie, this team of young men who have been working on the caretaker committee status have proved worthy of being granted full status.

``They have handled many security challenges in the Oba Community. They have been loyal to the parent body.

``So, they have been given the mandate and our blessings to continue for duration of the tenure.’’

In an interview with reporters, Oba Youths President, Tochukwu Uzochukwu after thanking the entire Oba leadership for the full tenureship granted them said that since his team's inception as caretaker committee, they had reduced criminality in the community.

``We have identified crime zones. Smashed criminal hideouts/we discovered about 17 bunks, where illicit drugs are peddled and sacked such places. We assist the Police in reducing criminality on the roads and rural areas.

``We have been sensitising the youths on dangers of ingesting hard drugs via one-on-one counseling, campaigns with billboards.

There is a new brand of youths among whom crimes, drug addiction and land grabbing are no longer attractive.
