A 44-year-old man, Abiola Olaniyi, who claimed to be borehole driller, was on Thursday docked before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for allegedly defrauding a man of N960,000.

Olaniyi, whose residential address was not provided, was charged with conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Foluke Adedosu told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offence on Jan. 15, about 3. 30 p.m at Monatan area, Ibadan.

Adedosu alleged that Olaniyi, with the intent to defraud, presented himself as staff of KBS Drilling Company, Ibadan, to one Oluwatosin Ayinde, knowing same to be false.

The prosecutor claimed that the defendant obtained N960,000 from Ayinde to dig a borehole for him, which he never executed.

She said the offences contravened Sections 484, 516, 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate I. O. Osho granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 and two sureties in like sum.

Osho adjourned the case until June 30 for hearing. (NAN)
