The Imo Task Force on Illicit Drugs and Other Related Matters has impounded a truck load of cannabis worth N20 million, according to the Commander, Mrs Ijeoma Igboanusi.

Igboanusi, while displaying the cannabis at the police headquarters on Tuesday in Owerri, thanked the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) of the Police Command for impounding the truck and arresting the transporters.

She said that a combined team of policemen and task force members had trailed the dealer but he fled on sighting the team.

“Since the inauguration of the task force by Gov. Rochas Okorocha, it has been success stories.

“We have our men all over the state and these are men of integrity; and anybody found guilty, no matter the class, will face the full wrath of the law.

“We have successfully arrested and prosecuted some people involved in contraband business and we are using this opportunity to warn against dealing on illicit drugs.’’

The task force commander warned landlords and caretakers not to accommodate any criminal in their houses saying, “We will soon begin to demolish houses where illicit drugs are found.

“Such landlords and caretakers will also be joined as accomplices, while farms where such drugs are harvested will be taken over by government.’’

Igboanusi said that the task force had forwarded a recommendation to the State House of Assembly to amend the laws on illicit drugs. (NAN)
