THE Civil Society Action Coalition on Education For All (CSACEFA), a Non Governmental Oganisation (NGO) has enjoined the Kwara Government to devote more percentage of their annual budgetary allocations to education.

Coordinator of the NGO in Kwara, Mr Abdurrahman Ayuba, made the call in a  statement on Monday in commemoration of the 2021 Global Action Week For Education (GAWE).

Ayuba also urged stakeholders to join the over one billion voices around the world to call on the government to improve the quality of education and make it accessible to everyone.

He said the clarion call was in line with the global campaign proposed for government to among other things, increase and improve domestic financing for education.

‘The call is to ensure that education systems promote equity, equality and focus on the most marginalised learners, as no one must be left behind.

”To  provide free quality education for all and end the trend towards the privatisation and commercialisation of education.

”It also call for the  abolition of the Parent Teachers Association levies as well.

”Improve the quality of teaching through adequate recruitment, remuneration and continued teachers’ training.

”Listen and respond to the voices of those affected, space must be allowed for individuals and civil society to speak up,” Ayuba said.

He however noted that CSACEFA Kwara has earmarked on series of activities for the week.

Ayuba said the  activities include advocacy to Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara to increase financing for education, improve its quality and make it accessible to all.

He said that the group also carried out  advocacy visits to relevant  stakeholders, the House of Assembly, SUBEB, Ministry of Education, Human Capital Development, Religious Associations and Kwara Artisan Congress; delivering programmes on Radio and TV; and staging rally.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that GAWE is one of the major focal points for the education movement.

It provides every national and regional education campaign with an opportunity to highlight one area of the Education For All agenda and make targeted efforts to achieve change on the ground, with the added support of education campaigners and millions of members of the public worldwide joining together for the same cause.

The theme for the 2021 GAWE is education financing, in-line with the policy framing of the One Billion Voices campaign.

Actions and activities undertaken during the week will be focused on securing an increase in the public financing of education to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

The week was held from April 19 to April 25.
