AN NGO, She-Alert Care Foundation (SHE-ALERT), has secured medical supplies and disinfectants worth N500,000 from Dankani Guest Palace in Sokoto State.
Receiving the donation on Thursday, the Sokoto State Commissioner for Health, Hajiya Asabe Balarabe, described the gesture as an invaluable contribution towards enhancing the government’s efforts to improve healthcare delivery.
Balarabe, represented by Alhaji Bello Garba, Special Adviser to the Governor on Primary Healthcare, expressed gratitude to both the donor and the NGO for their immense support.
“This donation will significantly address the needs of the three selected PHCs and help ease the government’s burden in providing these essential facilities,” she said.
Balarabe further assured that the materials would be distributed to the targeted PHCs and would reach the intended beneficiaries.
In her remarks, Mrs Blessing Gidado, Executive Director of SHE-ALERT, said that the donation aligned with the NGO’s commitment to engaging the private sector in ‘Integrated Supportive Supervision (ISS)’ in the state.
Gidado explained that the initiative, implemented by Palladium, in collaboration with Nigeria Resource Partners (RPS), is driven by the ‘Better Life Restoration Initiative (BERI).’
She said it was aimed at supporting the USAID-funded Health System Strengthening Cluster project.
“The project, titled ‘Improved Quality Healthcare Service Delivery through ISS,’ focuses on quality improvement through oversight, skills transfer, and knowledge sharing with healthcare providers,” Gidado stated.
She highlighted that the exclusion of private sector partners in ISS funding has deprived the state of valuable resources, urging other businesses and individuals to emulate Dankani Guest Palace’s lead.
In recognition of Dankani Guest Palace’s support, Gidado presented the firm with a certificate of commendation and encouraged continued contributions to the welfare of the community.
Responding, Alhaji Aliyu Dankani, its Managing Director, said the contribution was part of the company’s commitment to humanitarian service within the community.
He expressed appreciation to SHE-ALERT for the collaboration and pledged further support to alleviate the economic challenges faced by vulnerable groups.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the three benefiting PHCs are: Kwandawa PHC, Gidan Dahala PHC and Tungar Tudu PHC in Sokoto North, Sokoto South and Gwadabawa LGAs, respectively.
The donated items included stethoscopes, thermometers, cotton wool, pads, surgical spirit and glucometers.
Others were packs of pregnancy test strips, packs of vitamin C, cartons of multivitamins, bleach, disinfectants, detergent, and Nightingale hospital gowns. (NAN)
