AN NGO, Chris Igbokwe Foundation, has urged Nigerians, multinational companies and corporate bodies to provide relief materials to victims of the flood that ravaged parts of the country.

President of the foundation, Chris Igbokwe, who made the appeal on Thursday in Abuja, sympathised with the governments of Kogi, Anambra, Bayelsa and others over the havoc the floods caused in their states.

Igbokwe called on government to evolve lasting solutions to forestall future occurrences.

He decried the slow response by government in mitigating the plight of the flood victims.

He said it was against this backdrop that he was appealing to prominent Nigerians to extend a helping hand to the victims as a way of alleviating their suffering.

“Government has not done enough to assist flood victims in the face of many demanding challenges.

“We, therefore, call on banks, Coca Cola, Cadbury, Julius Berger among others to assist in providing relief materials to the flood victims.

For his part, Igbokwe said he had approved the disbursement of some relief materials to some of the states ravaged by flood.

“I have directed the administrative department of the foundation to communicate officially with some state governments preparatory to distribution of relief items to flood victims.

“We are in touch with state governments on the way out of the recent flooding in some parts of the country. It is one of our principles to give back to society.

“We are starting the distribution of relief materials with Kogi and Anambra,” Igbokwe said.
