Nigeria @66: Delta NDC candidate calls for stronger leadership, accountability
Politics
THE Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Senatorial Candidate for in Delta North, Mr Victor Ochei, has called for stronger leadership and accountability to address Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges.
Ochei made the call in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Asaba.
The statement was issued to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
He said challenges including poverty, insecurity, unemployment, ethnic and religious tensions and declining living standards required renewed commitment from leaders and citizens.
“Today, however, the challenges of poverty, insecurity, unemployment, ethnic and religious tensions and declining living standards demand renewed commitment from both leaders and citizens,” he said.
Ochei urged governments at all levels to judiciously deploy public resources, strengthen democratic institutions and create an environment where citizens could live with dignity, security and hope.
He said Nigeria needed a governance system that placed the welfare and dignity of its citizens at the centre of public administration.
According to him, the country’s 66th anniversary should serve as an opportunity for sober reflection and renewed commitment to nation-building.
He said Nigeria remained richly endowed with human and natural resources, despite its history of military interventions, democratic transitions and economic difficulties.
Ochei, a former Speaker of the Delta House of Assembly, said the country’s resilience over the years demonstrated its capacity to overcome challenges and achieve sustainable development.
“We must use this moment to recommit ourselves to building a nation founded on peace, unity, justice, equity, accountability and shared prosperity,” he said.
He said achieving such a nation would require sacrifice, responsible leadership and active participation by citizens.
“At 66, Nigeria deserves a renewed sense of purpose,” Ochei said.
He called on Nigerians to remain patriotic and united in their determination to build a peaceful, prosperous and just nation.
Ochei said the Nigeria of their dreams should be a country where future generations could live with dignity and pride.
He urged Nigerians at home and abroad to use the anniversary to reflect on their collective responsibility toward national development.
Ochei felicitated with Nigerians on the 66th Independence Anniversary and wished the country continued peace, prosperity and progress.(NAN)
