THE Karate Federation of Nigeria (KFN) says about 2,300 karatakers have been certified Black Belt Dan grade athletes in Nigeria.

The Technical Director of KFN, Mr Dave Jegede, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Thursday that the certified karatakers could participate in national and international championships.

NAN reports that KFN hosted a National Coaches Summit during its 2nd full Council Meeting (AGM) held in Abuja on Monday.

The summit was themed: “Nigerian Coaches Development in the 21st Century”.

Among technical resolutions adopted at the AGM was that an athlete must be a KFN Certified Dan Grade to compete in national championships.

The AGM also resolved that only certified coach could operate in KFN organized competitions (including National Sports Festivals).

Jegede said that about 36 coaches were nationally certified for national championships.

The AGM applauded the collaborative initiative of KFN board in recruiting 10 national coaches to handle the various national teams (Cadet, Junior and Senior Teams).
