THE Nigerian Institute of Journalism, NIJ, has appointed Olusegun Osoba, former Governor of Ogun State, as it chairman of the Governing Council. His appointment comes as a replacement for Late Alhaji Isa Funtua, who was the former Chairman.

The NIJ in a communiqué on Tuesday, August 25, said that Osaba’s appointment was to explore his wealth of knowledge, administrative skill, professional depth, and goodwill to reposition the Institute in this era of technology-driven communication industry. Osoba’s appointment comes 30 years after he left the position.

The Institute also appointed Ray Ekpu, former president, Newspaper Proprietor Association of Nigeria, NPAN, as the deputy chairman of the governing council.

It also approved that the chairman of the NIJ alumni association is incorporated into the council in ex-office capacity with no voting rights. The Institute noted that this is to enable the old students to appropriately contribute to the repositioning of their alma mater.
