The Nigeria Implementation Science Alliance (NISA), says it will replicate the successes recorded over the past five years in Nigeria also in three countries of Ghana, Cameroon and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Prof. Echezona Ezeanolue, the Chairman of NISA, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Wednesday in Abuja, at the sideline of the 5th NISA, 2019 Conference.

According to Ezeanolue, the United States government through the National Institute of Health observed that we are doing in Nigeria, `a very good work’ that should be emulated by the Central and West Africa counties.

“NISA will help these countries to set up their own implementation science alliances. The programme will cover 24 countries in Central and West Africa.

“But we will begin with Ghana, Cameroon and DRC. We will bring these people together to form a regional alliance to solve health problems in their sub-regions.

“NISA is in collaborative relationship with the communities of implementing partners with Nigeria.

“It is committed to identifying, understanding, measuring and sharing implementation on science work done in Nigeria,” he said.

He disclosed that NISA started as a collaboration among United States PEPFAR-supported implementing partners, research universities, and policy makers to enhance quality of healthcare through implementation of science and research.

According to him, NISA was formed to tackle major challenges toward implementing evidence-based interventions, which include; poor dissemination and adoption by the communities where they are needed.

Ezeanolue said that these challenges were heightened when research findings from trials conducted in some local communities were not appropriately shared with community leaders, local policy makers, and other stakeholders.

He noted that the practice was common in resource-limited settings where policymakers were often unaware of the effect and local evidence-based interventions generated from their communities.

NAN recalls that NISA had advised the Federal Government to look beyond formulating policies and work towards implementing them to improve healthcare service delivery across the country. (NAN)
