Contrary to rumours making the rounds, the National Film and Video Censors Board, NFVCB, said it had not banned the movie on ‘Half of a Yellow Sun,’ book written by Chimanmanda Adichie.

In a press statement signed by Caesar Kagho, agency’s acting head, corporate affairs, the NFVCB restated its position that the movie was not banned as speculated and that the board had dutifully exercised due diligence consonant with section 36 (1)(b)of NFVCB Enabling Law ACT 1993, CAP N40 LFN 2004, which stipulates that “a decision on a film shall ensure that such a film is not likely to undermine national security.”

The statement said the board had duly communicated the exhibitor of the movie in a letter dated May 27, 2014 explaining the status of the film and requiring the distributor to expunge/edit some clearly stated objectionable aspects of the movie. According to the agency, “once the areas highlighted are resolved, the NFVCB as a regulator shall communicate a rating of the film as may be deemed appropriate.”

“The actions of the board are a routine procedure that is not specific to any production but primarily taken within the ambit of the law, underpinned by the superior logic of safeguarding overall public interest,” the agency added.

2FACE Idibia, award-winning Nigerian singer, has filed a N100 million lawsuit against Icon Weekly, a local soft-sell magazine, for libel. Icon Weekly had in March 2014, published a story in which 2Face was alleged to have impregnated a ‘top Lagos banker’, who was also his account officer in one of the new generation banks and that, the lady had every intention of keeping the baby.

2Face had immediately denied all the allegations, rubbishing the reports and even finding humour in the alleged affair. But three months after, the media/entertainment law firm of the L & A- Legal Consultants filed libel proceedings on behalf of 2Face, at the Ikeja high court, asking the court to adjudicate in matter and asked that its client be paid the sum of N100 million, being damages for the libellous publication posted on the magazine’s online and print platforms.

Insider reports have revealed that the story (which was found to hold no truth), had a negative impact not only on 2Face’s marital life, but also affected his finances. He is reported to have lost a very lucrative business deal, and endured a strained relationship with Annie Idibia, his wife.

MANY people know Kenneth Okonkwo, aka Andy, as a fantastic Nollywood actor who is very good at interpreting his roles. In fact, he is one of the pioneers of the movie industry in Nigeria with his pioneering role in the Living in Bondage, the first ever movie.

He moved on from there to become a very big player in the industry. For a while now, he has been off the scene and what many did not know was that he went back to the classroom and qualified as a lawyer. Okonkwo caused a big scene at the memorial court session held for the late Justice Chukwudifu Oputa, the father of Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy or Area Fada.

The session was presided over by Justice Mariam Aloma Mukhtar, Chief Justice of Nigeria, had in attendance several dignified Nigerians including the former governors Peter Obi and Peter Odili, of Anambra and Rivers states respectively.

The actor in Kenneth Okonkwo took over when he made an audacious entry, dressed in his regalia as a barrister. His entry changed the mood as the lawyers in attendance all wondered if the there was a movie shoot at the court.

An enquiry was quickly sent to him to find out if the court was a movie location but the eminent personalities were pleasantly shocked that the popular actor is now their learned colleague of the bar.
