Etinosa Idumedia, a rising actress and movie producer, has said that if given the right type of support it needs, Nollywood – Nigeria’s film industry – could significantly reduce unemployment in the country.

The young lady, who recently premiered her new work titled, The Washerman, at the Filmhouse in Lekki, Lagos, said that the industry needs a lot of important elements to operate optimally and compete favorably on the global stage.

She said by providing avenues for citizens especially young people to showcase their creativity and earn decent income, Nollywood could play a significantly role in increasing Nigeria’s gross domestic product if more funds are invested into the sector.

Idemudia said: “Nollywood is known all over the world, it is one of Nigeria’s biggest identities outside it. Therefore more funds should be plugged into the industry so that it can further expand and create employment opportunities for citizens. Even though it has helped reduce unemployment, it can do much more if given the right type of support.”

Speaking on her new movie, which has stars like Sound Sultan, Ik Ogbonna, Bryan Okwara, Frank Donga, Chris Okagbue among others on parade, Idemudia said the work would not only entertain viewers but also teach a lot of valuable lessons about life.

Attributing the success of the project to its quality storyline, the actress said that it was important for movie makers to churn out works that impact the society rather than just doing so to make money alone.
