Edo continues its dominance in developmental cricket as the state clinched another gold medal in the Women’s Cricket T20 finals at the ongoing 20th National Sports Festival (NSF).
Edo defeated Ebonyi by eight wickets on Wednesday at the Iyoba Cricket Pitch, Benin.
Expectedly, Piety Lucky, who is the first female in West Africa cricket to score a century (100 runs) in a T20 event, emerged the player of the match.
Lucky, from Edo helped her team score 23 runs off 21 balls in the match, which was reduced to 15 overs instead of 20.
Ebonyi won the toss and elected to bat. The South East team was restricted to 53 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 15 overs in the first innings.
Favour John’s 14 runs off 39 balls contributed to Ebonyi’s score.
The second innings saw Edo live up to expectations as they needed only 9.3 overs to score 59 runs for the loss of two wickets.
Just like Lucky, Abigail Igbobie hugely contributed to Edo’s victory with her 16 balls off 27 runs in the second innings.
Edo also won a gold medal in the six aside cricket event, both male and female, which ended on Monday. (NAN)
