A Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Lawal Adamu-Usman, has appealed to relevant authorities to ensure the arrest of kidnappers of a lecturer at Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria and his children.

Adamu-Usman made the appeal in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday.

He said the abducted Bello Atiku, was kidnapped within the premises of the polytechnic’s staff quarters along with his children on Saturday.

According to Usman, the kidnapped lecturer is the current Head of the Department of Computer Engineering at the polytechnic, stressing that the time has come for the government to arrest the insecurity in the country.

He said that the time for the government to take practical steps that would ensure the safety of students on campus was now, pointing out that both the Federal and Kaduna State Governments should do something to ensure adequate security in the polytechnic and its environs.

“The polytechnic environment is located in the outskirts (of Zaria) with porous surroundings that expose the campus to encroachment and other vulnerabilities.

“It is quite alarming that this is happening at this time when students are expected to go back to campus after the prolonged COVID-19 induced shutdown,” he said.

Usman noted that almost every community and highway in the north required adequate security against armed gangs, describing the situation as “worrisome” in view of the frequent violent attacks in the area.

He, therefore, stressed the need for more vigilance in all communities through synergy and cooperation between the communities and security agencies. (NAN)
